LIKES Yes, Ethan Cross is just your average boy who likes average things, like: building forts, climbing trees, pretending to be a pirate, and riding his bike through the park. He also likes not-so-average things, such as: reading the adventures of great witches and wizards in their original languages, winning wizard's chest against Sir Albert Wilmerding (the local chest master), rehearsing Mozart on the piano and the violin, and asking many, many, many questions. Well, children often ask questions. How else do they learn?
DISLIKES Ethan Cross also dislikes average things, like: cauliflower, early bedtime, getting into trouble with his parents, and the crust on his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and not-so-average things like being barred from adult conversation because the adults don't believe he can understand them, not being able to explore the extents of magic outside of school, and abused books.
BOGGART At twelve years old, a child is expected to fear quite a bit of things, and the same could be said of Ethan Cross, but what he fears most of anything is losing his sight. Now, Ethan has no danger of becoming blind, but the thought often renders him nauseous. He enjoys all of the splendors of sight far too much to bear parting with it, especially as such a curious child as he is.
MIRROR OF ERISED Ethan Cross has many dreams and aspirations, such as: becoming a wizard's chest master, creating a flying pirate ship, and discovering new magical creatures, but he wants nothing more than to meet The Golden Trio. What child hasn't heard the tales of the brave Harry Potter, the brilliant Hermione Weasley, and the valiant Ronald Weasley? He's read of their adventures and triumphs and he marvels at the thought of meeting them.
PATRONUS Much too young, Ethan Cross has never conjured a patronus. He's only beginning to be away from his parents for a considerable amount of time, so he hasn't come into himself enough to have a proper form. If pushed to, though, his patronus would take the shape of an owl.
PERSONALITY 'Curious' is a suitable word for young Ethan Cross--in more ways than one. At first, he seems like most children. He's susceptible to laughter and runaway thoughts, asks many questions, is quite honest, and is only beginning to discover what shame and embarrassment is. He can be quite the chatterbox if the topic of conversation happens to be one of his favorites, but he also listens attentively when he's learning something new. He's not well apt in matters of confrontation, which is why he avoids them if he can, but he's attempted to put his foot down when the time called for it. Otherwise, he enjoys the company of bright individuals and capable adults who don't turn him away when he strikes up a conversation. On that note, adults are either stunned by his extensive vocabulary and vibrant word usage, or disgruntled for being, as they would say, 'cheeky'.
You see, Ethan Cross may look like an ordinary boy of twelve, but there is something very funny about him (and not in the way that makes you laugh so much you cry). His gaze is too attentive, his questions too specific, his curiosity insatiable, his academic adaption too immense, his ideas too outlandish, and he comes to conclusions too right and too quickly. Strangest of all, he enjoys laughing with friends and being a child. It may seem strange to most people, most definitely, but Ethan feels nothing more about his apparent oddness than people do about the hour of three in the afternoon. It just is. Because of this, however, some people think he is pretentious, stuck up, or cheeky (so says the adults), and he is at fault for being entirely too blunt and honest, especially when his buttons are pressed.

Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort.

HISTORY Ethan Fredrick Cross was born to the Solihull Crosses who are chipper folk like most Solihull residents. Unlike most Solihull residents, however, one of Ethan's parents is a wizard. Charles is a jovial man who rolls up his sleeves when he works and laughs with his whole body, certain qualities Ethan has adopted. Quite the charmer, as well, from what Rosalind would say. She met him at a fair where he made a show of pulling roses out of various objects--his sleeve, his pocket, from the hair of a clown, and from behind her ear. In his attempts to woo her, he foolishly commandeered the fair horse, Lola, to ride to Rosey like a knight, which resulted in a minor concussion when Lola got spooked and bucked him off. Officially stating that he was an idiot in the medical tent, she fell in love with him, and when he revealed himself as a wizard three months later, she only demanded he be more help around the apartment they shared since he had a magical advantage. They were happy, and that lead to being happy and engaged, and then happy and married and living in a cozy two story home, and then happy and married and living in a cozy two story home with a baby on the way.
When infant Ethan finally arrived into the world, his parents were smitten, and they made sure to give him everything he needed and even read the baby books. They cooed at his babbling, though he was merely only a few weeks old at the time, and though his brown eyes were awfully alert for an infant, they were still round and sweet. Months later, they found him sitting among his toys where he managed to separate them all by color. Startled, Charles and Rosey mixed the pile of bright, plastic shapes and watched as Ethan placed each one in distinct piles of red, blue, yellow, and green. It was...odd. Very odd. As a magical household, however, they were familiar with odd, so they thought nothing more of it. When Ethan was able to speak, however, he was forming whole sentences (subject, object, and verb), and he demanded books. Lots of books. Colorful books with pictures and sounds, and not long after, dry tomes bound in leather and inscribed in old English. By the time he was five, he'd already managed a book of Shakespearean sonnets with a decent level of comprehensive for a child. Or anyone.
"I think it may be time to admit that our son is a genius," Rosey told Charles one day as Ethan entertained himself with Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca on the piano (he was seven years old at the time). Charles only nodded gravely and then applauded his son who looked up at him with a big smile when he finished the piece.
Rosey insisted that Ethan take an official IQ test to accurately gauge the level of genius their son possessed, but Charles insisted that there needn't be a number placed on Ethan's curious nature and that he was in no competition. "He's just curious as all children are." And so, Ethan continued to grow up like any other child who also happens to understand complex arithmancy and transfigurative theories. His appetite for knowledge and problem solving lead him to become an active wizard's chest player, and after beating his father undefeated dozens of times, he was taken to meet Sir Albert Wilmerding, an 87 year old wizard's chest master. It was Ethan's first loss in quite some time, and the game was extremely close during is next visit, but with a bishop left, Ethan beat Sir Wilmerding and the old wizard looked at the boy and said, "It's been twenty-seven years since a bishop has taken my king. Well done, Mr. Ethan Cross." Young Ethan was only eight at the time and made fast friends with Sir Wilmerding, making visits to him every other week just to play chest and listen to the old chest master tell stories of all the people he's played against and of the most exciting games he's ever played.
Like most things in his life, Ethan showed signs of magical ability when he was still a babe, easily levitating objects he wanted across the room to him. So, it was no surprise when Hogwarts staff approached Charles and Rosey about early attendance to the school, and in their company were representatives from schools in France, Bulgaria, Germany, Japan, and America. Charles and Rosey turned them all down, however, and informed Hogwarts that Ethan would be in attendance when he was of age. Ethan was actually quite disappointed when his parents told him all of this when he was nine, the thought of perhaps being in Hogwarts right then learning about magic in one of the best schools in the wizarding world was exciting, but he waited and waited and waited until he got his letter just like every other little witch and wizard in the UK, and he began school with kids his age, who liked to ride bikes, and fly their brooms, and build forts, and climbs trees just like him. He also began bothering the staff with questions, and (in some cases) interesting others with them.
As brilliant as he is, though, he's still just a kid still discovering the world around him.
