It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.

HAIR&EYES Short brown hair that is easy to take care of, and nothing done beyond the necessary. Over the years, the white has taken most of his facial hair, and is setting in on the hair on his head as well, giving him a somehow more kindly look. Light blue-grey eyes. His eyes are somewhat narrow.
HEIGHT&WEIGHT 6'3”, about 225 lbs. He is still rather muscular and intimidating.

LIKES
[1] His Family - madalyn was his redemption, the kids reminders of who he can be.
[2] Sleeping In - particularly when madalyn sleeps in with him.
[3] Good Food & Drink - it may be a problem for his waist, but at least he doesn't go overboard.
[4] Fireplaces – he might have a drink and fall asleep there at the end of the night. NOT pass out.
[5] Learning About Others – extreme shift, but he likes to learn who people are inside.
[6] Being at Home – where his family is, and where people won't judge him right away.
[7] Homework – helping james and autumn with theirs, that is.
DISLIKES
[1] His Ex-Wife - they are not on speaking terms now, which is rather freeing for ardin.
[2] His Past - he doesn't like thinking about who he let himself become.
[3] The Bad Days – meaning those in which it is hard to get out of bed or face the morning.
[4] The Ministry of Magic – he thinks that much of the war was due to their incompetence.
[5] Dementors – ardin did go to azkaban for a while, and he'll never forget the dementor effects.
[6] Blood Prejudices – mostly because he used to believe in them and saw the error in his ways.
[7] His Age – mainly that he and madalyn are so far apart... less time to be together!
BOGGART His past harming his family.
MIRROR OF ERISED As far as he's concerned, he has it. Though now he would like his kids to have that same contentment.
PATRONUS A Stallion, in part because of Madalyn's patronus being a show horse (and his not being able to summon a patronus until he found the good side of himself – specifically after he met her), and in part because of the protective form of aggression that he can have when faced with enemies.
PERSONALITY Ardin is hardly recognizable from the person that he was before the war. The man who was cruel and did things only to have a nod of approval from the Dark Lord is gone, replaced instead by someone who wants to make the world a better place. There are times when thoughts of the person that he was intrude, and he feels physically ill at best and borders on suicidal at worst, it's so hard to face. But when he looks to the family that he has now, he can see his worth in the people that love him. And he knows that his children wouldn't be the good people that they are if he was a complete screw up. The failure in parenting that resulted in Vincent's death haunts him still... But he tries to live his life in a way that would redeem them both.
He has also realized that he was not quite as dumb as he and everyone else thought. He was able to deceive the Death Eaters for a time, and he has an excellent memory that has contributed to his writing career. The idea that people can become monsters because of how they were raised probably explains Ardin the best. He was raised in a family of Dark Wizards and he hated muggleborns and blood traitors since before he knew what they were... Knowing the error of his ways, he has been honest with his children about who he was, and all the ways that he found he was wrong. He encourages acceptance of others.
Ardin knows that he made a lot of enemies during the war on both sides, and so he does have worries about it catching up to him one day. Still, he refuses to lie to the world the same as he refuses to lie to his family. He is who he is, flaws and positive qualities in one. He was not near as cowardly as he'd once thought he was, either, as evidenced by the fact that he was able to put himself at risk not only when he helped to free Madalyn and the others but for the rest of his life. Unfortunately... he is still clumsy as he was always was when he's under pressure, and that might bring him trouble later on.

Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort.

HISTORY From a pureblooded family, it comes as no surprise that he was sorted into Slytherin house while attending Hogwarts. He had been raised with the same ideals that most of the Slytherins were, but something new was a sense of unity among people near his own age. He enjoyed also the house system that told him exactly who he should victimize and who he should look up to. He did get into a few awkward situations through a perverted nature and dark sense of humor, but the bonds that he made early on protected him.
He married almost directly after school due to an arranged marriage his family had planned out for him. He joined the Death Eaters later which surprised no one at all. It didn't hurt that Crabbe looked up to people like Lucius Malfoy, who were more capable of finding their place in the world. Becoming a follower was, in his eyes, the quickest way to rise to the top. The idea that maybe it would only cement his dependency didn't occur to him. And also, he didn't care as much about his wife's safety because she had put an end to his free days and he hadn't gotten the time to really get to know her anyway.
Crabbe likely never stood out in the early years of the Death Eaters, but was still loyal. When Voldemort fell he was forced to find his own way in life... supposedly. After getting his name cleared he got a low-level job at the Ministry through his contacts. Luckily for him, a small fortune had been left from his father anyway. And once the distraction of pureblood mania was out of the way, he also spent more time with his baby son Vincent and came to finally accept the family life.
After living a relatively quiet and boring life hardly resembling his former one, Crabbe came to the graveyard when summoned. The experience and the realization of how lucky he was to get out of the graveyard alive after not seeking out Voldemort caused him to rethink his current situation, and he reverted to his old ways. He also participated in the battle at the Department of Mysteries, and was arrested directly after. His time in Azkaban has been gnawing at his mind, and all he wants is to escape and begin recruiting more people to the Death Eaters' cause.
Ardin's redemption did not happen for quite a long time. It probably started with his attack on Brynlee James, in which another Death Eater joined him and took her away. Ardin was actually guilty about it, wondering if he was responsible for her grave injury or death. Around this time, he was also somewhat plagued by guilt that he was feeling toward another enemy, one that he had developed complex brotherly feelings toward for the fact that Ardin was actually taking polyjuice potion to look like the real brother. Eventually, one of the two issues was resolved as he found Brynlee by chance, and learned that she was alright... And maybe even had improved her life somewhat by the close encounter she had with the other Death Eater. The guilt wasn't gone, but he was able to put it in the back of his mind.
Still, it ate at him enough that every time he was up against a woman he thought of Brynlee and he was unable to do anything. Similarly, his satisfaction with hurting others had all but disappeared, leaving him wondering if he'd ever really found joy in it at all.
The major turning point was when he met Madalyn Hurst in a bar type scene. The two of them seemed to click in a strange way despite the age and lifestyle differences. He learned that she was a muggleborn, and she learned that he was a Death Eater... Yet that didn't stop them from spending a long while talking and eventually sleeping together. Ardin felt when he woke up as though he was not the same person that he was the night before. She had made such an impression on him that he was determined to be someone who was worthy of her. And that was the beginning of his transformation.
Not long after they met, Madalyn really was snatched. Ardin swallowed his pride and gathered all the courage in him and went to his enemy, the Order, to find people who would help him to rescue her. The small band actually did manage to save not only Madalyn, but a number of other 'undesirables'. And Ardin's betrayal was known. He thought that her life was worth everything that he was leaving behind, as that had been an empty existence all things considered.
When it came time to fight in the war, Ardin stood strong and fought against his former allies to defend the people who might never fully trust him, his new allies in the Order. He lost a confidante when Thiery died, and also Brynlee, who had been important to Madalyn and also himself in a way. One of the hardest moments of his life came when he learned that his son Vincent had died during the Battle of Hogwarts, a result of his own lack of understanding of the Dark Arts. Ardin knew that it was his fault at least on some level. He had been a very poor example, and beyond that, once Ardin's betrayal was known Vincent was likely pushed into doing things that he wouldn't normally have dared to do to keep his own reputation. It was something that he has never forgiven himself for, even today.
But in the end, their side won, and the Death Eaters were defeated. While he had a lot of negative things he'd done while a part of their group, Ardin's punishment was rather small since he'd deserted the Death Eaters while the war was going their way. It proved in a way that nothing else could that he was changed.
He eventually married Madalyn, despite their age and blood differences. His ex-wife never bothered to speak to him after that, and he never sought her out. Madalyn was the one that helped him through the loss of his son while he helped her through the loss of her cousin. Their love lacked shame, because they knew that it was genuine and that they belonged together despite everything that said otherwise. Ardin completely gave up his prejudices, and when James and Autumn were born (two years apart) he was somewhat redeemed in his bad parenting of Vincent. He and Madalyn were practically the poster couple for anti-supremacy, and their family was full of the love that was lacking before. Ardin never once lied to his children about his past. In his opinion, if mistakes weren't meant to be learned from, they would swallow the person whole, or drown them in guilt.
There were survivors of the Battle on the Death Eaters side that evaded prison. Ardin is a target of theirs, and he knows it, and lives each day like it could potentially be his last.

NAME/ALIAS SHALIE
OTHER CHARACTERS A loooot.
RP EXPERIENCE? 10+ years.
RP SAMPLE. Ardin was not surprised at all to have them turn on him. He would do the same in their case, since he was probably responsible for things that had happened to the people that they cared for. There was no escaping what he'd done in the past. This was meant to make up for some of that but of course it would not be enough. Couldn't they let him try? He didn't flinch when she put her wand to his throat. “I'm here to save Madalyn,” he said, looking at her evenly. Then he looked at Isaac. How could he prove that Madalyn was the reason that he was here, not something else? He tried to think on what to say, but both Shalie and Xander helped him find his words because he didn't feel so cornered. “There isn't any way that you can know for sure. You'll have to trust me, and I know that you probably can't do that.” He paused. He really, really didn't want to say something too sentimental but he almost felt like he had to now. “Madalyn is my reason for living. If you can't give me that trust, then kill me, or take me to someone who will. But save her... You have to save her. I can't do it alone, or I would never have come here.”
He looked over at Shalie's last words even as Isaac rook his moment. “Betray... No, I won't. I promise that I won't. I'll do anything that you want, but only after I know that she is safe.” He wondered what they would have him do... If he went with them tonight, he would be outed as a traitor. If he didn't, he wouldn't be there to make sure that things went right and it would be more dangerous but he would more useful in the future. “When my former allies try to kill me, that's the only proof that I'll have that I'm telling the truth. But Gemma... You left behind that life, and why? Wasn't it for the same reason?” God, he was pathetic, begging like his many past victims had. Maybe they would have more mercy on him than he'd had on others. But that wasn't all true. That was the him that came before, not the one that stood here pleading.
