PERSONALITY
Dianne has always preferred to use her middle name Catalina, not out of a dislike for her first name but more because she loves the way Catalina just rolls off the tongue. As the baby of her family, most people expect her to be an attention seeker or be constantly expecting attention, but in reality Catalina is actually very quiet. She enjoys spending time alone far more than spending it with others, unless the others are people she is extremely close to. While she will spend time in a large group if it is required of her, she doesn't particularly enjoy it. Usually she will keep to herself until she is either forced to participate or socialize or someone she likes spending time with seeks her out.
Those who are close to her have found that she can actually be quite loud in the right circumstances, especially when she is on stage or the dance floor. At this point in her life, she has become quite a talented saxophone player and swing dancer. Anyone who sees her play would hardly recognize her as the quiet girl who spends most of her time in the library, though if they paid closer attention to her in the library they would have seen how passionately she envelops herself in whatever she was reading. It is not uncommon for her to lose herself to a good book, in some cases she has even managed to forget about her bodily functions until she resurfaced.
That passion is far more easily seen in her saxophone playing and her dancing. She feels the music in every part of her body, showing it as she moves through the steps with the grace that she learned from ballet but the passion that is required for jazz. One of the reasons she hated classical music was because it was always frowned upon to move while playing it; when she plays her saxophone she can't even try to keep still, the music compelling her to move with it. However, views that passion as private and doesn't really like when strangers see it. Her quietness should never be mistaken for stupidity though. In fact, she is extremely intelligent to the point where she often has trouble interacting with people who aren't as smart as she is.

Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort.

HISTORY
The youngest Fontaine child, Catalina has always been surrounded by love. Even though they aren't fully related, her siblings have never acted like anything else, despite what expectations people may have. In fact, they were closer than most siblings who do have the same parents. Ollie, Ellie, and Tallie (from the 'tal' in 'Catalina') were practically inseparable, except for when they were at Hogwarts. Catalina was two years old when Ollie left for Hogwarts, but he always made sure to spend extra time with her during the summers. Both he and Ellie were extremely protective of her, which would make her roll her eyes but she secretly loved.
Like her siblings, Catalina was trained in classical arts. She took up ballet dancing to emulate her sister and played the flute at her mother's encouragement but she never really enjoyed either. Classical arts always felt so stiff to her, almost emotionless even if she easily recognized the emotions the music represented. Still, she continued to practice because she loved the beauty of performing arts. Often she would voice her displeasure with the lessons to her siblings, though most of her interactions with Ollie had been through letters, as he was in Romania due to the nature of his job. Ellie always seemed sympathetic, even though she loved the classical arts, while Ollie tried suggesting alternative music styles. On her tenth birthday, she received a letter from him containing a "best of" jazz CD (some muggle inventions did manage to catch on in the wizarding world) and instantly fell in love with the music.
That love led her to quickly abandon the flute and (after doing a bit of research) insist on taking saxophone lessons, as that had become her favorite instrument. Unfortunately, all the proper teachers in their area were muggles. She was allowed to study with them so long as she understood the importance of keeping her magic secret. It was a baffling experience, since she had never before been around muggles but she had little trouble doing as required. Any slip-ups were often disregarded as the fantastical imagination of a child, which her parents were greatly thankful for.
A year later, she was off to Hogwarts with her sister, her precious tenor sax packed tightly away. Catalina had no intention of playing for anyone but she was determined to keep practicing. During her first weekend, she made sure to find a spot where she could practice without being disturbed. She really didn't have many friends at school, the few she did make were mostly due to Ellie... 'encouraging' her to branch out. If it had been up to her, she likely would not have bothered to make any. Unconsciously, she was actually very glad Ellie had pushed her. During her first summer away from Hogwarts, she learned swing dancing.
