HAIR&EYES His eyes, though they are not expressionless, are vacant. Dark brown, almost black in low light, James' gaze appears two-dimensional. His irises rarely glow or shine; they reveal very little. He has the look of a dreamer, only one lacking hope or fantastical notions. It seems, at times, as if James is not even listening to the happenings around him. One attribute that is sometimes unnerving, and other times relieving, is the intensity of James' dark stare. When his look is boring into you, it is anything but void; it is emotional, yearning, and often, it is excited. James' hair is thick and dirty blond. His natural look is terribly unkempt, though his hair is easily tamed for any important event.

LIKES James' favourite activity is reading, though he finds it difficult to engage with a book unless it is absolutely quiet around him. He also enjoys listening to music, broomstick flying, Transfiguration, walking through Hogsmeade in winter (it always feels a little more barren then), and slicing potion ingredients. James doesn't actually like Potions class, as it requires a lot of observing and waiting, but there is a preciseness to preparing ingredients that he enjoys. Some of his hobbies include following the Hogwarts' ghosts--he naively thinks he'd like to be one when he dies.
DISLIKES James dislikes potions, mostly, as mentioned earlier. He also dislikes crowds, and large bodies of water, trying his best to stay away from the Lake when he can. Other things that get on his nerves are loud noises--he absolutely hates the game Exploding Snap--having to share a dormitory with others, attending ministry events with his parents, and being barred from the restricted section of the library.
BOGGART Being trapped, whether in a small or large space.
MIRROR OF ERISED Invisibility Cloak
PATRONUS A Bowerbird. Solitary, somewhat delicate, but intelligent and crafty.
PERSONALITY
James likes to be on his own, usually. His favourite activities don't require friends or companions, and he has several projects he works on independently. However, though he is reserved, James is not shy. Quiet, but not bashful, James does not censor himself. He hands out cutting remarks and compliments both, freely. While he does not need to be with others all the time, preferring silence most of the time, James does enjoy the company of others and has made a few friends here and there, in several of the Hogwarts' houses. Unexpectedly, James has a good sense of humour; it is sarcastic, though it is often at the expense of others. In social areas, James has discovered he covets intelligence, and arrogantly thinks he is above most of his class in maturity. Most people don't respond well to that aspect of his attitude, and thus, James does not easily earn the respect of his peers.
James is wildly ambitious. While he doesn't exactly care of where he'll end up, and what his career will be, he does like to be challenged. He is also someone who judges immediately, and harshly; he will either respect or disregard you within minutes of your meeting. James, as mentioned above, has a somewhat tired obsession with ghosts. He constantly feels unfulfilled, as though his life should be more exciting than it is, and is an unbelievably nostalgic character. For that reason, he craves a kind of immortality, even if it is the kind that comes with translucently wandering the halls.

Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort.

HISTORY
James did not grow up with any siblings. He is but the only, and very prized, son of his parents. His mother, a former Slytherin, is not very affectionate. The 5th and youngest child in a family of Gryffindors, Flora always felt slightly an outcast. Though she was generally a happy person, she grew resentful of her differences. Though James often sees his aunts and uncles during the holidays, his mother is no longer very close with any of her family. Other than her love for very dry, very long history books, and her tendency to obsessively collect artifacts, James doesn't actually know much about his mother. She writes textbooks from home, often monopolizing their study.
Van Adair met Flora after Hogwarts after his first marriage fell apart. They aren't seen together often, only at Ministry events and visiting their son at Hogwarts. James shares his father's personality--quiet, but mostly personable. Van was well-liked during his time at Hogwarts, though most of his past relationships have been lost to time. The only person James tends to talk to during his stays at home is the maid, Deola--moreso out of obligation than anything.

James stared out of one of the castle's tall windows. After wandering through a seemingly endless amount of corridors that entire afternoon, he found himself in one of Hogwarts' highest, most looming towers. The view he faced was simultaneously magnificent and terrifying, and as James stared at the green lawns below him, a small smile slid onto his face.
Leaning over the ledge carefully, James studied the grounds below as wind snapped at his robes and hair. It took him a minute to grasp his resolve, but soon enough, he was ducking out the window and taking slow steps over the ledge and onto the balcony. As soon as his feet hit the floor, James held his arm out in front of him and pulled back the sleeve of his robe. His lips quirked upwards as he stared at the words inked onto his arm while his other hand gripped his wand.
The spell he had been practicing was closely related to any normal levitation charm aside from its strength; James had learned after his research that it was one of the prominent charms used on rugs to make them fly. That information had ultimately led him into believing he could assemble his own magic carpet, and convinced, James inhaled sharply before all but shouting the words scripted elegantly onto his forearm at one of the rugs still snug inside the castle.
