LIKES
[1] Hogsmeade – it reminds him of his younger days at Hogwarts.
[2] Staying in touch with his family and friends. He writes letters weekly when he can.
[3] Playing tennis and croquet – it's good for making friends and keeping contacts.
[4] Sleeping beside another person. It's one of the things that makes him feel safe.
[5] Reptiles. He came to face his fear that had been around since his second year, and he is rather fond of them now.
[6] Teaching. It's something that he seems to be rather good at.
[7] Caring for Kathryn. He thinks of her as his own daughter while at the same time he tries to instill values in her that her birth parents would have wanted for her.
[8] Laughter. It's infectious, and nothing makes him happier than being able to make someone else laugh.
[9] Animals. It surely didn't take that much convincing for Justin to let Kathryn bring in a bunch of pets.
[10] Children. One of his greatest regrets is that he didn't have any of his own. It isn't that he thinks less of Kathryn of would think more of a child that he helped make himself, it's just that he wants the family to be bigger than it is.
DISLIKES
[1] Gilderoy Lockhart books – he used to be quite a fan until he was put into perilous situations and came to resent the lies.
[2] Death Eaters – pretty obvious, but for him it is personal.
[3] The passage of time. It seems so slow, yet so fast at the same time.
[4] How cowardly he once was.
[5] Dueling. He never did it for fun, though he did get quite good at it by necessity.
[6] The dating scene. It's never been something that he's comfortable with.
[7] His insecurities. They're a whole different set than he had when he was younger, mostly revolving around if he is raising Kathryn well enough or if he's there for her as much as she needs him.
[8] Formal parties and the like. They're necessary for someone of his background, but he is just kind of bored by them unless he has friends there.
[9] Boys flirting with his daughter. He actually has to mentally restrain himself, knowing that even as innocent as he was when he was in school he was still kind of a pervert.
[10] Crying. But he's a pretty emotional guy, and it happens for him probably more than most men.
BOGGART Losing Kathryn, or something happening to Danika, about equally.
MIRROR OF ERISED A normal life. He feels like there's something missing in that, and unfortunately, he knows just what it is. He's been in love with his friend Danika since they were in school and while he thought that would change over the years and each of them living their own lives and raising kids... it hasn't. She's the missing piece to his life.
PATRONUS Penguin! They are extremely social animals, and Justin is also. Flightless, they seem unable to achieve many things that other birds can... But they have strengths in other areas.
PERSONALITY Justin is still a very friendly person who is quick to laugh, but there is a fear and a sadness to him that there wasn't when he was younger. He endured a lot of torture during the war at the hands of the Death Eaters and the Snatchers, and he has trouble talking about that to this day. He would rather change the subject to something good and happy rather than dwell on it, because he will get emotional. And he hates to get emotional around most people. He used to be a coward that was afraid even to be on his own at night within the castle of Hogwarts. He still has some fears, but they're legitimate things to worry about. He got braver when he had to be, and after facing the things that he did, nothing seems to scare him all that much anymore.
He also sees things clearer than he used to. Justin was the sort of person that would try to befriend others even when they made it clear they wanted nothing to do with him, but these days, he lets things go a bit easier. He wants to make a difference in the lives of others but only if they'll let him in. That caring nature is what inspired him to take in another person's child and also to teach. He is very empathetic. He can understand how another person is feeling and picks up on such things easily. He is the sort of person that cannot hide his emotions, he's so transparent. He's quick to laugh, has a very specific look to show his annoyance, and he cries when he can't hold it in anymore. He still has insecurities, but he tries to put them from his mind. He knows that he'll never be perfect, but he's gained confidence in who he is because of Danika and his other friends. If he is good enough for them, then he should certainly be good enough for himself.
Working with the group from the Order of the Phoenix made him more accepting of different kinds of people. Specifically Ardin Crabbe, a known Death Eater who had turned his back on the Death Eaters to save a woman that he loved. Justin thought that was a very brave and noble kind of act and he supported the couple completely. And so while he is more wary of people, he makes his own judgments, avoiding listening to what others might say about them.

HISTORY Early history is Here.
Justin's feelings for Danika became something more than friendship in his sixth year when, almost experimentally, they kissed, and were subsequently caught by her older brother. That discouraged him somewhat, though he always wondered if that was just a fluke or if she really had felt something for him. Before that happened it wasn't as though he didn't like her, it was just that he hadn't really been 'awakened' in that way until they kissed. So this occupied a lot of his thoughts throughout his sixth year and even after that. It was made worse when he actually lost his virginity to her... Especially since at that time she was confused about her sexuality, not sure if she was exclusively into women or if she was interested in men. And again made worse because before they could fully explore what they both thought about the situation, the war hit.
Justin had sent his parents away from the house and intended on going into hiding for his blood status. To see them for the last time, he had Danika and his friend Cobalyn at his house. They drank, they all basically passed out, and the next morning Javier the snatcher arrived at his house and took him to the forest where all his tortures were performed. He kept Justin mostly obedient by telling him that he knew where Danika and Cobalyn were, and he would kill them if Justin didn't do as he said. He endured a lot of torture and experiments in that forest along with a lot of other muggleborns and blood traitors. It was a long time before he was rescued. That was by a small group from the Order of the Phoenix, including Danika. Somehow, they still never fully cleared up what everything between them meant. Or maybe it was just that Danika, pregnant with triplets, had more important things to think about.
Since his life had been spared Justin became a fighter for the Order himself. He kept in mind the people that he wanted to save and he was able to do acts of courage that he never thought possible of himself. Eventually that war was won, though there were casualties. Justin took in the daughter of two of his allies that had died in the war. He was always honest with her that she was adopted, though he wasn't ready to tell her who her parents were. There were still people out there who might hurt her, and he wanted to protect her from them as well as he could. However, he didn't feel that comfortable at the beginning being in the wizarding world. So he mostly stayed in the muggle world, taking the job as an elementary school teacher.
Being a father was not as easy as he thought it would be, but since it was something he'd wanted ever since he was a kid he did his best at it. He never let Kathryn have things without earning them first, but that wasn't a problem for him. She was a very well-behaved child all on her own. He stayed in contact with his classmates and his old allies even though he didn't spend a lot of time in the wizarding world. When Kathryn got her letter to Hogwarts he was there to see her off, though of course, you guessed it, he cried just a little bit and she looked at him like he was crazy. Justin didn't like the empty house, it just felt... Unhappy, somehow. That's when he decided to venture to the wizarding world more often and see his friends in person more... And that did help.
In the end of course it all comes down to Danika. He has never gotten over her, and a part of him can't help wishing that he had been the father of her kids. But for timing he could have been.

RP SAMPLE. “Alright, Justin, the number is on the counter. We should be back in a few days,” his mother said, giving him a small hug and a kiss on the forehead. “Are you sure that you're going to be able to handle things here? I mean... You'll be okay?” It was wasn't the first time that she had asked that. So he smiled and nodded as he had every other time before, and gave both his parents an extra hug. He held on longer than he usually did.
“Are you sure?” This time, it was his father's voice, as Justin held him in a hug. Justin knew that he had to pull himself together. When his mother asked that, it was just her worrying about him as she often did. When it was his father who asked that, it meant that Justin's carefree facade was not going over as well as he meant it to. “We could just...” his father began.
Justin released his parents and laughed a little bit himself. “No, everything's fine! I just wanted to let you guys know that I love you...” It wasn't completely out of character for him to say that, though it had been something that he said more often before he grew up a little bit. He was too old to say that all the time... A few awkward minutes later, and his parents were finally out the door to visit relatives. Justin watched them until the car had pulled away, then sank down with his back against the door and rested his head on his palm, trying to fight back tears.
He knew that it might be the last time that he saw them. He knew that things in the wizarding world were bad. Not only was Dumbledore gone, but he'd been getting the newspapers over the summer, and knew of all the disappearances and deaths. When things seemed too dangerous, Justin had asked Ernie to send him the Daily Prophet instead of getting it himself, just in case somehow it got tracked back to the house... Even though Ernie's owls could be, too... It just felt safer. It was just too easy to imagine that his parents could end up dead because of him, and that he could have avoided the possibility by just going to the muggle school that his mother had wanted him to go to. And even if he couldn't take that back, he had other regrets. He wished more than anything that he could have told them a goodbye that would have been memorable instead of the usual generic sentiments, but he knew that they would have made him come along.
Justin had plans, because he had to. He was going to leave home while they were on a trip. He didn't think he was important enough that his parents would be in danger when he wasn't there. But if he was, he couldn't defend them against Death Eaters. He was sure about that. But before he left home, he wanted to get his friends together one last time, in case something happened to them, too, or they just didn't see each other again. Justin knew that his situation wasn't very hopeful.
He had gotten back a few responses, but it seemed that there were a lot of people who couldn't make it... or didn't want to. He remembered that his reaction had been... very similar, actually, to when he watched his parents drive away. He kept on a happy face, but inside, he was always one step away from breaking down. Maybe he was just being paranoid about the state of the world... He wished that he was.
Thinking about his friends that he wouldn't see today, not being able to see Hogwarts in the upcoming year, and knowing that his parents would be broken up that he wasn't there when he came back... all of that hit him at once, and finally, he let himself cry as he hadn't been able to throughout the beginning of the summer. It was better to get it all out before his friends did show up, even if it was only Cobalyn and Danika, who he trusted with his emotions for some reason. It took him a good five minutes to calm himself down, then he went to shower and change into a t-shirt and jeans, basic summer wear. He didn't quite know what they were all going to do once they were here, but he was starting to get excited about it. Still worried, but excited too. He looked at himself in the mirror, decided that he looked.. normal enough, and then he left the house to wait outside for his friends. He thought they'd probably apparate. It was a big enough property that he thought they would be fine... No muggles around to see.
