BOGGART Falling into one of his dark moods and not being able to come out of it.
MIRROR OF ERISED A happy relationship, free of the meddling of others.
PATRONUS Probably a small dog, both for his love of them and his personality. He loves people generally and is friendly, and not too threatening... But of course he could still do some damage if he really wanted to. Loyal and content with staying with the people that he knows well.
PERSONALITY
James is, all around, a pretty decent guy. He doesn't like conflicts with others and for the most part can see the good in them. And he's laid back, as well. When he does have a confrontation with someone he usually puts aside his negative feelings and internalizes them. It's done more harm than good, though, since it leads to bouts of depression. He is the sort of person that makes friendly acquaintances pretty well but he is closest with the people that he has known since childhood. Those few people and his family are what keeps him together when he is having such dark moments. For the most part at least it has led to him having few enemies since he's never truly mean to anyone. He is protective of his sister and all of his friends, but still he'd talk something out before resorting to violence.
Because James puts others ahead of himself most of the time, he has a tendency to have trouble with relationships. Basically, he doesn't get in relationships because girls like to put him in the friend zone because of what a good sport he is about listening to their problems. And unfortunately, it's just these sorts of girls that James tends to fall for. He has to know someone before he wants to be anything more than friends with them, and he prefers good girls. In his experience it isn't just a cliché that good girls go for bad guys. It's frustrating to him, but in the end better to have a friendship than a short-lived relationship. The rare times that girls give him the time of day he treats the relationship like it could go long term even if it hasn't yet. After all, what's the point of trying if there isn't any chance of a love surviving it?
Since James is kind of reserved, a lot of his friends tend to be louder than him, and some of them more trouble-makers. He doesn't encourage that behavior but as long as they aren't hurting people he doesn't stop them. And maybe sometimes he does find it pretty funny... Because his parents are on opposite extremes of blood purity James doesn't care about that sort of thing, and actually has interests from both worlds. He got a love of music and literature from his mother, and a taste for alcohol from both his parents. However, he has only been insanely drunk once and he learned from it, showing self-control now and only drinking a little bit on special occasions.

Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort.

HISTORY James was raised in a family that was very fair, and inspiring of equality. That was because his father had been a Death Eater for years before he met Madalyn, a much younger muggleborn woman. They had fallen in love, prompting Ardin to betray the Death Eaters first to release prisoners of the snatchers directly from Malfoy Manor and later to fight directly against his former allies during the war. Ardin had always been honest with his children about his past because he wanted them to learn from it. Parents being from two different worlds and finding each other did teach James not to judge others on superficial things. It also taught him that love could come of even the most unexpected situations, and he's open-minded about relationships.
Adjusting to school was difficult at first for him just because he didn't have his family with him, but James made friends easily and the schoolwork was manageable when he took his time on it. He was full of common sense and general smarts but schoolwork was something of a challenge. His best class in school was Transfiguration – for some reason, it was the only one that he didn't need to have someone else help him with a little bit. He had always been interested in music as well, and when he was thirteen he got his first guitar. He concentrated a lot on music for a while after that. He was better at singing, though, a talent that he likes to think came from his mother. Of course, that sort of thing is probably not genetic... But still, it was just a thought in the back of his mind and not anything that he would have said aloud. Hanging out with friends, singing, and guitar took up a lot of his time from third year on.
When he was fifteen he had his first sort-of relationship with a neighbor girl. Nothing much came of that, but when he returned to school he noticed that he seemed to attract more girls than before. Apparently it just took maturing a bit... Though at that point he didn't care that much about the idea of relationships. He was too focused on his personal hobbies. The only people that caught his attention that way were the ones that he was already friends with. But basically, he's had a pretty normal life. Boring, some might say. But he doesn't mind that... Especially given his family's history!

RP SAMPLE.
Without even realizing it at first, Ardin smiled when she spoke. It was as though it was something that came naturally, which really, it didn't. There was something about her, it was impossible not to smile. He didn't know what he'd expected her to do when he spoke, but he hadn't expected such a warm and open response. “I don't think that there is anyone here who would disagree with me. You have something special about you. Different. Most people who have taken to that stage, I didn't even look at them. I don't think that I even notice them.” He let out a laugh, that seemed similarly rusty. He took a drink. He found himself wondering again why he had even bothered her. It didn't seem like they were the sort of people who should be in the same room, much less having a conversation. But he got a good look at her through the art of exchanging words, and she was even more beautiful than he'd first guessed. It wasn't just her appearance. It was as though the goodness of her shined through in her expressions and her voice. He had never encountered someone who made him feel this way at first meeting. He'd feel guilty for even being who he was, if not for the completely bizarre fact that he kind of felt lighter at the moment.
When she said that she would have remembered him, Ardin was instantly a bit nervous. She probably said that to everyone, but if she just happened to mean it, and saw his face on a wanted poster, she would think back to this night. He wouldn't be able to come here again... that's all that it meant. Or possibly any other place with a stage she might perform on. “I suppose that I do stand out a bit – especially in a place like this.” He was testing the waters, wondering what it was about him that she might find memorable. Then, he figured, it didn't really matter. If he got caught by the aurors who still wanted to do their job right, then who cared? All the more reason to make the most of his freedom. She said that she was glad that he was here, and he wore an almost dorky smile. He couldn't help it. And he didn't know what to say other than, “Well, so am I...” He was so used to speaking with people about things that he couldn't even get into here, or pretending to be someone else. Two short years ago he had associated with ordinary people every day in his job at the Ministry. But between then and now was Azkaban, and it almost felt he had to re-learn everything about speaking to other people now.
“Madalyn. Nice to meet you.” He was beginning to feel more comfortable. And his smile became more in control too, something almost charming. “So what I saw on stage, that wasn't an act at all, was it? You really do care about people,” he said with a soft nod. “I'm... I don't know.” He knew that was a stupid answer, and he amended it, surprisingly with the truth. “I used to live in London, if that's what you mean. But right now, it's places like this.” He hated admitting that, especially to someone like her. Since his wife effectively kicked him out, he was in places like this more than anything. He didn't want to scare her away, but for some reason, couldn't lie to her. “What about you? You seem like the sort of person who would make anywhere right for them.” He spoke in a lighter tone so that she would know his depressing answer was all but left behind.
