She can be a pistol if she feels threatened, and she’s not afraid to defend herself or anyone she loves in the heat of the moment, should the occasion call for it. She was raised in a pureblood supremacist home, and has always been openly hateful towards muggleborns, though she has been slowly breaking away from the life her father has been trying to force her into. She is coming to accept those of non-pureblood status, even considering friendships with them. This has been a time of major life change for Gemma.

HISTORY Gemma Carlin Ashby was born on a stormy night in October to her parents, Maureen and James. A year later came her sister Katherine, or Kate. Gemma and Kate have always been inseparable and best friends, until quite recently. Her biggest family secret is that Kate (thought she) fell in love with a muggle boy last summer and Gemma, drunk, killed him when Kate had gone home that night. She feels like her sister never fully forgave her, but at the time she thought it was for the greater good of their futures. She was suspicious of Kate’s excuse that she didn’t know the boy was a muggle, but she let it go because of the love she has for her dear sister. Their father forced them to promise to never tell, and he took care of the situation for them, even rewarding Gemma on her first kill. This very sentiment was what kick-started Gemma’s thoughts that maybe the way of life she always knew was not the life she ultimately wanted to live.
Gemma has been a very fortunate girl financially, and never gone without anything. She has always received anything she ever wanted or needed. She comes from a long line of pureblood wealth on both sides of her family. Her parents are both loyal followers of the dark lord, and have been encouraging Gemma to follow in their footsteps. James has said on more than one occasion that upon her seventh year at Hogwarts, she would receive a dark mark to her arm. He never dreamed she would ever not want that to happen.
Gemma has had an easy life, free of suffering. She’s never lost anyone she loves, and for that reason she fears the day when that finally happens. She has always had an incredibly cruel and dark side to her, but she is fiercely loyal to the ones she loves, especially her sister.

The dark morning was foggy and cold. Gemma could tell this much just from looking out the common room window. She sat by the fire, warm and cozy, and watched with amusement as two younger slytherin boys fought over a seat near an adjacent window. Pathetic, she thought as observed them getting in each other’s faces and talking like they were big and bad.
Her attention was reverted when Katie came into her sight. She tossed an oversized pillow next to her feet as her sister sat and rested her head against Gemma’s left knee. ”Good morning sis, how was breakfast?” Gemma asked as she stroked Katie’s hair. She was sure that Katie had been holding something back from her lately, and today seemed like the right day to get the truth.
