MIRROR OF ERISED His life is nearly all he needs now... But he wants to retire in comfort and marry a woman that shares his personal ideals.
PATRONUS A black swan, for his sophistication and affinity to beauty.
PERSONALITY Javier is known to have two sides to him – the side that is well-mannered and charming, and the side that is... well, unpredictable and a little crazy. We'll start with the first. Javier has always been able to interact well with people when he chooses to, and when he doesn't want to put in the effort he usually uses words to get his point across. He is especially good with dealing with women though when necessary has used that charm against men as well. He has never cared as much as others about blood status itself. That is, it doesn't impress him to hear about another person who is from a three-thousand year old straight pure-blood family, but knowing that he is is something that he gets pride from. Nearly everyone is beneath him, so what difference is it how much? For the reason, his interest in the Dark Lord's ideals and in being a Snatcher are not necessarily because he hates muggleborns or even muggles. In a small way, it's the freedom of doing something that will make an impact.
The unpredictable side doesn't come out usually unless Javier feels the situation coming out of his hands. That, or if one is around him enough to notice that sometimes, his words are a little bit off. If he thinks he has ultimate control in a situation he may reveal his motives out of arrogance – the classic super-villain mistake. He never gives away his full plans, though, if he's been forming them. Since leaving his comfortable Ministry job he has been living without a solid plan which is new to him. However he does use his intelligence more than he lets on. His motives for joining the Snatchers, for instance, is not one of hatred for the Undesirables, but rather the impression of hatred, so that he will be above the danger and more likely to fit in with the people who will take him places. His violent episodes are rare and usually due to something being in the way of a goal rather than just killing for fun. However, should the need arise he won't hesitate in his new found 'career'. People and situations alike are either stepping stones or obstacles to Javier getting his way.

Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort.

OTHER Being a pure, Javier has plenty of cousins, aunts, and uncles. His biological father was never revealed as his father; instead, he knew him as his grandfather.
HISTORY Not that much has ever been disclosed of his home life, other than his mother was a pure -blood who had an affair with her pure-blood husband's father. His mother, and the man who Javier initially believed to be his father, had married young and had a mostly distant relationship. His mother worked in a shop that made robes, though this was mostly a hobby to give herself a pass to freedom. Javier's 'father' Luke had inherited his father's fortune shortly after marrying his wife; his father had died under suspicious circumstances shortly after Javier was born.
Edie was depressed over the passing of the elder Demery and eventually died from unknown causes. Although Luke was actually smug about what happened, and thought that she deserved it, the distance then between Javier and Luke closed some. He was proud when Javier got into school and into Slytherin house. Apparently, whatever had been bothering him was now out of the way, and he could enjoy his retirement (at the age of thirty-four) with more money than ever.
Javier's life in Slytherin was as usual. He wasn't the sort of bully that would cast jinxes at people, but he was a tormentor with words who seemed to know things about a person that he shouldn't, such as correctly guessing whose parents were having problems, who had lost a person important to them, and who had experienced a break-up. This didn't help him get friends. He was something of a loner because of his tendency to pick on people regardless of house and status, even if he never got violent or went out of his way to pick on someone who hadn't started something first. He was also very good at the subjects that interested him most, perhaps because of his ability to shut out that which he found irrelevant.
When he got out of school Javier seemed to grow up more. He found himself a job though by then his father had passed away and Javier got his inheritance. He never married. Suddenly, because of his manners and charisma that seemed to manifest naturally as he aged, Javier had plenty of friends and business acquaintances. He held parties to boost his reputation. He with intrigued by the Dark Lord's message but didn't want to endanger himself too much. So he stuck to his own life, working at least to make enough friends that he would have no problem getting out of trouble should he decide to join the ranks of the dark lord. To make himself appear less useful he rarely did anything with magic so they wouldn't have a reason to hunt him.
So now that he is twenty-four and the Dark Lord is coming fully into his power Javier has decided there is nothing to lose. Rather than face the consequences of being a death eater directly he's decided to join the Snatchers in collecting muggleborns and blood traitors. He does so with his usual suits and good manners, setting him apart from most who put function before fashion. He briefly had an affair with a half-blood widow named Mrs. Scythe, though that, like being 'evil' was a means to an end. She was rather influential...

The life of a snatcher... Javier did not care for generalizations that would put him in the same category as the other snatchers, those that were rejects of success and failures at life. They were the ones who did allow their base instincts to overpower them. They were out for blood. Lust ran rampant in at least a few that he was acquainted with. But they were easy to control when you promised them what they wanted, and that was how Javier led his faction. Some of them hardly even realized that they were being led in the first place, like sheep and the dog nipping at their heels. The only difference that he could tell was that sheep had the sense to fear the dogs. Perhaps with Javier speaking it would not seem they were all as driven to idiocy as they were. “One request, if you would. Be careful with that word, 'snatcher',” he said, pretending not to notice her burning gaze. At least she was looking at him now.
He hadn't gone into detail about anything. He wanted to increase the fear, let people know that what Voldemort was doing was serious without giving them enough information to arm themselves if they were enemies. Reassuring the pure-bloods that the problem would be taken care of while at the same time not providing information where it would matter to the others. Javier was careful with his words each time he opened his mouth. He was certain he'd done well, not ever mentioning the taboo or how many of them were currently employed as 'mercenaries'. He had made it seem like it was a lot of information. Yes, some of the snatchers would be angry that he'd spoken at all, but they were blind fools who couldn't see that admitting there were people out hunting others would actually drive many of the people to second guess themselves and try to hide somewhere else. They would get them while they were out in the open.
Javier nodded when she stated that it would be a few weeks. As they were sent here and there, he would have to make sure to get a paper when that article was due to be released. Odette's expression which soon followed did amuse Javier, but only because he had not actually done anything to Odette that she could blame him for, did he? What happened between them was one of those 'dual participation' events. Whatever he could be blamed for, he could blame her for as well. “You look as though you're angry with me.” He gave her a smile that was both amused and concerned at once. Two things that shouldn't have balanced as well as they did now. “What happened in the past is the past. Because both of us had a part in it, I never did blame you, Odette.” He wondered why women were more often the ones that held the grudges when it came to romance and the more physical side of things. He was glad to see her because she was one of the few people in the world that he respected. And he was greeted with barely veiled frustration. It didn't bother him as he'd expected it. But he'd rather have her on his side in some form or other than out of his life again once the interview was over.
He gathered them glasses and began pouring a drink when he heard her question. He glanced over his shoulder briefly, turned his attention back to the drinks until they were precisely the same (he held them against each other and waited until the liquid ceased its side-to-side motion), then brought them back to Odette. He passed her one and lightly moved the contents of his while looking into the glass. “Not as wonderful as you might expect,” he said, his tone not one of sarcasm but the words themselves clearly so. “Those above us believe that we're all incompetent and those below are afraid of us. It is one field where you definitely have to prove yourself. I would consider it a greater challenge than the job I held before, which was all about my name and family history rather than true talent and determination. I suppose that's why I wanted to keep it.” He looked up at Odette with a slight smirk on his face. “Ah, my response and the question that preceded it sound suspiciously fit for the interview.”
He sat down on a comfortable looking old chair, his smirk becoming a genuine smile again. “Why don't we speak as old friends instead? How have you been? I understand that the writing business isn't quite what it used to be.” Javier was benefiting from what was going on in the wizarding world. But so were the writers of newspapers. Always they were looking for something that would sell. Now they hardly had to power up their braincells in order to come up with something controversial or informative. Odette was one of the journalists that seemed to put truth and her own love of writing ahead of money and fame. God, he would love to have more people like her in the business. He took a small sip of the drink. He was generally conservative with his alcohol, drinking it when he had company of a reputable nature. Odette was not his usual guest but what she lacked in typical benefit she more than made up for in charm and intrigue. For Javier, at least. And naturally that was all that he was worried about.
