HAIR&EYES Emma's facial features are oddly small except for her eyes, which are very wide and bright green. Her hair is a very light blonde and is definitely not at all lacking volume. Emma hopes that it is curly, but instead it is mostly frizzy. Sometimes it poofs out in a triangle, rather like a yield sign to keep normal people away.

LIKES
Books. When Emma was young, her parents constantly read to her. She is highly imaginative and learned about being able explore entirely new worlds with just a library card. As a teenager, she spent a lot of her free time reading as a way to deal with any problems or aspects of reality she didn't want to experience. Whenever she is lonely, she will read.
Plants. Emma loves most plants for a variety of reasons. She is moved by vegetables and the spiritual connection that occurs when you are with something from seed to plate. She loves edible plants you can collect from the wild. She is very excited about the world of magical plants that going to Hogwarts has opened up to her. She loves strong growing trees and little resilient flowers.
Herbalism. Emma learned about herbalism from her Muggle mother who uses herbs for healing.
Writing. Emma has a faulty memory and years of journaling as an attempt at archiving important moments has instilled in her a passion for writing. It provides a sense of catharsis and release for her.
Spring. Spring is the season of ecstatic promise that will never quite be fulfilled. Emma knows this, but can't help but burst with joy when the trees start budding and it comes time to start seedlings.
Goats. As she grew up on a homestead where her family kept dairy goats, Emma developed a connection with these animals. She loves their distinct personalities.
Fiber Arts. Emma's mother taught her how to spin her own yarn and knit. She loves having complete control of an entire creative process, but is often overwhelmed by the possibilities. Since coming to Hogwarts, she has been studying how to incorporate magic into knitting.
Dogs. They are the sweetest, most loyal creatures.
DISLIKES
Dishonesty. Emma absolutely hates being lied to. She'd prefer to know the truth, even if it'll hurt.
People who hurt animals or do not treat them with respect.
Insincerity. Why do something if you do not mean it?
Disrespect for the earth, littering, environmental destruction.
Her own inability to keep anything organized.
Betrayal. Emma is very loyal to those she loves and considers betrayal one of the worst things you could ever do.
Paperwork. It's very tedious and sometimes difficult.
BOGGART
Being unloved, being not good enough, being a failure and ending up entirely alone.
MIRROR OF ERISED
When Emma looks into the Mirror of Erised, she sees herself in a small, cozy cabin with a beautiful, lush garden, eating a healthy homecooked meal with everyone she loves the most, surrounded by her most loyal and loving friends.
PATRONUS
Emma's patronus is a sweet little dog with long, curly ears.
PERSONALITY
Emma can be intense at times. She is fiercely loyal. Emma would literally die for the people she loves. And when she loves someone, she loves them with everything she's got, and I mean everything. In everything she does, she lacks moderation and swings from the extreme ends of the spectrum; She has a hard time seeing the value of experiences that exist in the middle.
Emma is a very optimistic girl whose bright personality shines through her exceptionally shy manner. Emma is incredibly unassertive and does not enjoy confrontation. This is in part because she lacks self-confidence. She also worries about the validity of her observations, so she prefers not to make any. Due to Emma's low self-esteem, she tries very hard to please others so they will validate her, but it is important that these people be people who actually matter to her. For their validation to be worthwhile, they must have a similar value system to her own.
Despite her reserved and timid demeanor, if something sparks her interest, Emma's passion is easily brought out. She will go from standing with her arms crossed and staring at the floor to an excited and dramatic flailing of arms in a matter of seconds if, for example, she sees a very lovely goat or a plant she likes a whole lot.
Emma is extremely sensitive. She is incredibly easily moved by things, whether they be negative or positive. Small events can seem life altering and of dire concern simply because of how strong her feelings about them are. This sensitivity, however, also causes Emma to be very empathetic. She picks up on the emotions of others easily and responds with concern and compassion.

HISTORY
Despite being half-blood, Emma was raised without magic. Her father is a squib, so neither of her parents are actually capable of magic. When Emma was younger, her father developed alcoholism. The first ten years or so of her life were fairly rough because of it. Sometimes she could not tell when he was drunk and just thought he was being fun, but other times her parents had screaming matches through the entire night, until her mother had to go out to do chores. It led to things being rough financially sometimes, as the farm was not incredibly profitable.
When Emma was ten, her parents got divorced and her dad moved away. Emma was heartbroken, but somewhat relieved. She loved her father and spending time with him, but her home was once again a peaceful lovely place. She would see him one weekend a month, if he was sober, and he still paid child support. Emma knew that her parents had loved each other very much and the divorce was rough on her mom.
Emma was home schooled by her mother and absolutely loved it. She loved spending her days wandering the outdoors and learning at her own pace. By the time she was ten, she was capable of leading herself in most of the subjects she was learning, which was good because her mother no longer had time after the divorce. Before learning she was a witch, all of her skills were very practical and grounding in physical reality, so magic was a very different and strange thing for her.
Emma did not have a lot of friends growing up, but she loves her parents and her animals with all of her heart and would read books whenever she felt lonely. Reading about strange fantasy worlds was what got Emma through the divorce. She was very overwhelmed when she came to Hogwarts and had a hard time making friends because of the solitary life she had previously led.

Emma stood in the greenhouse nervously, waiting on the boy from her philosophy class. She alternated between picking the yellowing leaves off of her fruiting tomato plants and wringing her hands. During a discussion, Camus' question about first judging whether life is worth living, Emma had stated that there are some activities that are always meaningful that make life worth living. Her example was farming. She believed very strongly that the earth and the people on it needed a caretaker, and that organic farming was a solution. Spending eight hours digging in dirt and basking in the sun to produce delicious foods could do wonders for existential angst. She hadn't gotten far in her explanation before he had shot her down. She hadn't really been able to follow what he was saying when he did. He'd mentioned a lot of concepts she didn't know, but the gist was that he had disagreed. He thought the earth was basic and puerile, something that he could easily dismiss. He probably, she figured, thought she was stupid for caring more about getting dirt under her nails than studying old philosophy texts.
Emma knew he was wrong, though, and it almost broke her heart. She knew that farming was the best possible thing, and that the earth was beautiful and took care of the creatures on it. The earth knew what it was doing and created so many wonderful things. She wanted to show him, so she'd invited him to visit the greenhouse she'd been working on this semester to grow lots of delicious vegetables, colorful fruits, and beautiful herbs. These were her plants, and it still awed her that she could plant a seed and such a strong, healthy plant would grow from it. So many things lived within the soil, working together to cycle the death and decay into new, fresh bursting buds. It gave her so much hope in the face of tragedy. Emma sighed and looked at her watch. He was late, but that was to be expected.
