LIKES
[1] Eye Contact: She is the sort to look unflinchingly in the eyes of another person when talking to them, and she expects the same. Plus when flirting she likes the game of looking at someone until they look at her, then looking away.
[2] Satin: It's what her nightgowns and bedding are made of, she likes the feel of luxury.
[3] Sci-Fi: She has a love for the muggle take on monsters and futuristic things. One of her friends forced her to read the novelization of Star Wars, and she adored it. However, she hasn't had the chance to actually watch the movies.
[4] Accents: Anything but the typical English accent. So she loves the Scottish, the Irish, and especially the more exotic ones like Russian, Spanish, or French... And so on.
[5] Outdoors Recreation: Skiing and Hiking are at the top of the list. She's only discovered them earlier this year.
[6] The Protective Type: It's her weakness, though she hates when they go so far as to think that she couldn't take care of herself without them.
[7] Quidditch: It's one place where she can just let herself be completely un-ladylike.

DISLIKES
[1] Being Sheltered: Particularly from a certain kind of news. She hates when she has to find out that something happened not from the source, but from rumors.
[2] Shopping: Most people think that she would like it but in fact she finds it so tiresome. Her mother is quite obviously always trying to imitate whatever Emblyn gets.
[3] Not Being in Control: Of her own life, anyway. She doesn't care what other people do with theirs. She just hates seeing where her life is leading and not being able to do anything about it.
[4] Jealousy: She hates the feeling of wanting to be someone else, or wanting to be with someone else. It makes her feel ashamed when the emotion gets to her.
[5] Other Girls: Not all of them... But it seems like a lot of the time, girls will betray each other for a boy or something as equally stupid.
[6] Sweets: She prefers snacks that are salty, like chips (both the American and English usage, I suppose).
[7] Clowns: Let's face it. They aren't very funny, and they are definitely unsettling.

BOGGART Becoming like her mother, vain and one-dimensional with a husband that she doesn't care for.

PERSONALITY Emblyn is a very stubborn person who doesn't like to rely on others for things. Her entire life she has known that she is the reflection of her family, and as the only child, she has to do things 'just so'. Most of the time during the summers, she can do that. She can be the perfect lady. During school when she is no longer under the scrutiny of her family, she does things a bit differently. As her family has decided that she is to wed someone who is worthy of her (IE- a pure-blood) Emblyn has done her best to keep her distance from 'the other type'. She has female friends who are half-blood and a few half-blood males that are strictly friends, but she has avoided muggleborns like the plague, insulting when she must. It isn't because she really has anything against them, it's because she is afraid of what would happen if she realized that she really liked someone that she couldn't be with forever.

In fact, Emblyn is generally a stuck up brat. She claims not to care at all what others think of her, and especially when she is around her cousins, she acts like nothing can touch her. When no one is looking she is a decent girl. She has helped younger girls in the dorm adjust to life at Hogwarts, which means that they look up to her in ways that people her age and older don't understand, as they haven't seen that side of her. She is also easy to catch off guard if one is alone with her. She doesn't feel as much need to act when it is one person. Even if word gets out that Emblyn isn't a complete jerk, she can counter that with a story of her own and pair it with a well-placed insult and that is that.

She has a rebellious streak that seems to be coming out more the closer she gets to reaching the end of her seventh year. Emblyn knows that most likely she won't get to choose her husband. She can, however, choose who she sleeps with before that time. Obviously the desired situation would be that she is a virgin when she is arranged to marry a man, but Emblyn plans on finding the right person for that and ruin it for her parents. Maybe it will get her out of her marriage, but even if it doesn't at least she will have made some memories of her own.

She seems to be naturally gifted in school but she is actually just very hard-working. She studies a lot, locking herself in empty classrooms so that others don't suspect that is what she is up to. In fact, most things about her are very hard to maintain, but she makes it look effortless. Her hair, her make up, her studies, and the stories that she crafts to make up for the time that she is away... all of it is tiring but she still thinks that it is worth it. Good practice for dealing with the old fashioned pure-bloods that she will have to get to know better. What she is very smart about is the way that people think. She is great at manipulation, and while some people would say that being fake is wrong, she thinks that it is about survival.

Because of how she does a lot of acting, Emblyn doesn't have anyone to go to when she is genuinely upset.

HISTORY Emblyn was born the only child to Marcus and Melodye Thorburn. Both of them were pure-bloods that had been put into an arranged engagement. Funnily enough, both families involved thought that the other was well off and hoped to benefit from the arrangement. And... both were playing the other. Marcus and Melodye did come to love each other but they struggled to make enough money to keep their family homes. It was obvious what the solution should be. Try and try again. More and more pure-blood families were a name without a fortune. This time, they would make sure that they looked into the other family's finances before they wed their daughter off to someone.

So from a very young age, Emblyn knew that one day she was going to be married off to someone else. She was alright with that when she was a kid because she didn't understand that other people had choices. In school, she saw people dating and falling in love, and she decided that she didn't want to have to give herself up to someone that she didn't care about. And thus began her journey to get out of the arrangement while not letting her parents catch on to the rebellion.

Her studies were a pretty time-consuming thing, though she let people make assumptions about where she was when she was actually locked up in an empty classroom reading. Basically, that's all that happened in her history, though she is now looking for the 'right person' to sleep with for the first time. And friends that might help her through the sham of a marriage.
