Being back at the school felt more like coming home after the summer than the other way around. At least, that's how it had always been before. This year, things felt different from the moment that Anthony stepped on the train. It felt like foreign territory, and he didn't feel like he belonged there. Without Dumbledore, what would the new school year be like?
He'd wanted to instantly seek out Lorena, his solace, but prefect duties had kept him rather busy. Well, he called them that. Rather, he was making sure that everyone was alright. Yes, prefects were meant to keep order. But in Anthony's mind, he was also meant to protect his classmates. He didn't want to let anyone get hurt on his watch. Although, this year that seemed to be quite the promise to make himself. He didn't know what was in store for them, but with the obvious power shift to the Death Eaters, he knew that it wouldn't be good.
It was a risk he'd taken in giving Lorena a note while passing the Ravenclaw table this morning. To meet him in the clock tower. He knew that his family was not loved by the Death Eaters for his mother was a muggleborn, but they were not nearly important enough to get their attention, either. So he was safe as long as he stayed out of their way. He wasn't bound to do that, though. He couldn't. He needed to protect his family, friends, his home. This was the first risk he would take, and the only truly personal one, he thought. After that it would be a matter of rising up against the Death Eaters. Even if that wasn't until the end of the year.
He waited in the clock tower, looking out, wondering for a moment if he could be seen here among the hands. When he heard footsteps he slowly turned back, expecting to see Lorena but hoping to see no one with her.
